#1. Our focus is ASL. We are NOT a multi-language agency. Our focus is ASL and Deaf culture. Period.
#2. We’re local. Some agencies attempt regional, even national coverage. Coordinating events from hundreds of miles away with independently contracted interpreters can lead to confusion.
#3. We don’t use “independently contracted” interpreters. Our interpreters are employees. As such, we are allowed by law to maintain continuous oversight; directly invest in interpreter training and development; and offer attractive benefits like professional liability insurance.
#4. We lead from the front. Our Advisory Board is ground-breaking. We are involved with the California Healthcare Interpreters Association; the Southern California Health Information and Management Systems Society (for Video Remote Interpreting); and the American Sign Language Teachers Association.
Lastly . . .
The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) recognizes Interpret San Diego as an Interpreting Services Agency. RID is a national membership organization. It plays a leading role in advocating for excellence in the delivery of interpretation and transliteration services between people who use sign language and people who use spoken language.
